Chapter 1: 'Where the hell am I?'
On that day, a meteor fell to the ground.
Various expressions were used by people to describe the streamlined object that cut through the atmosphere as a streak of light.
Some said it was the holy spear thrown by a goddess.
Some said it was the breath released by a fire dragon soaring through the sky.
Some said it was the anger of a king ruling over magic, taking tangible form as thunder that cleaves the heavens.
However, these were all rumors spread as baseless gossip, and since no awakening disturbance occurred afterward, they eventually faded from people's memories.
However.
It did indeed fall to the ground.
Breaking through the atmosphere, engulfed in scorching flames, it descended.
Lifting soil, shattering giant rocks, it reached the ground.
Smooth and streamlined.
The silver armor, resembling the egg of some bird, unblemished and sturdy, protected what lay inside for countless ages.
And as billions of suns rose and set, trees decayed, soft soil sprouted new shoots, and eventually, it grew into a dense and flourishing forest.
Sinking into the depths of the sea of time, the silver box, burying more than half of itself in the ground, suddenly emitted a high-pitched sound.
The preset time had been counted down by the built-in electronic devices.
Like a bud bathed in sunlight or an egg awakened by a parent bird's beak, the silver armor slowly opened.
White vapor filled the surroundings, creating a temporary appearance like a sea of clouds.
The silver box, fallen from the sky, had released what it had concealed within.
What lay dormant there was a girl.
White hair, white skin. Clad in a tight-fitting, decoration-free, water-colored suit that adhered closely to her still young body, she slept with her legs pulled up.
As the warm outside air caressed her cheeks, her body, awakened from cryogenic sleep, attempted to reboot following the electronic signals from her brain.
"Mmm..."
Her thin lips parted slightly, and a breath escaped. Breaking the thin ice that covered her eyelids, round and large crystal-clear eyes appeared.
They were like large crystals, meticulously carved by a skilled artisan from a sleeping gemstone found underground.
"Where is this?"
The girl, having regained control of her body, slowly stood up.
Having been dormant in the egg-like container for a long time, her joints seemed completely dulled.
Feeling a tingling and hot pain, she forced her legs to stretch.
As far as she could see, it seemed to be an unfamiliar deep forest.
"Activate Action."
In response to her voice, a faint glow enveloped her entire body.
It was an incantation.
The prepared keywords circulated throughout her body, ringing the bell of awakening.
What was awakened was the nanomachines injected into her body.
They passed between her cells, moved subtly, and gradually increased their activity.
"Environment Scan - Environment Search."
The light emitted from the girl's entire body converged around her waist and began to rotate.
In an instant, it was released in all directions at tremendous speed.
It pierced through the wind, and the light rushed thousands of miles.
"Many unknown elements detected... Where on earth is this?"
Through the investigation of the nanomachines, detailed topography within a radius of three kilometers was recorded in her brain.
And that record clearly proved that the surrounding terrain, flora, fauna, and elements were not present in her database.
"For now, I need to be able to move."
Optimizing her body composition based on the information analyzed earlier.
Rewriting her genetic code at the level of genes to shape a body that would exhibit the best performance in this environment.
Feeling a tingling sensation that ran through her entire body, she inadvertently shivered.
"Alright, okay."
Rotating her joints and checking the movement of her body with a few steps, she nodded in satisfaction.
Her external appearance had not changed, but this allowed the nanomachines within her body to operate more efficiently without unnecessary processing.
"Hmm, I know this is some star, but..."
Saying this, she looked up at the sky.
In the blue sky visible through the gaps in the trees, oblivious white clouds lazily floated.
"Thanks to cryogenic sleep, my memory is also vague... Ah, was there a recording device?"
She turned her gaze to the fully opened silver sphere.
Along with numerous instruments, a small black rectangular object the size of her palm was attached.
Grasping the rectangular box with both hands, she sent a command to the nanomachines.
"Connection Access."
White light ran over her skin, dissolving into the black box.
It connected to the information hidden inside and transported it to her brain.
As the progress bar at the edge of her field of vision turned completely yellow, she casually tossed the box aside.
"Display - Display."
Following her words, the nanomachines displayed information on her retina.
"Individual name: Lala. On her coming-of-age celebration, she went on vacation alone to a resort planet five billion light-years away. During warp via cryogenic sleep and dimension-transcending navigation, an accident of unknown cause occurred, resulting in a crash landing on an unknown planet with unspecified details... It's quite troublesome."
Reading aloud the information lined up, Lala made a grim expression.
Alone on a nameless planet, unable to contact her home planet.
In such an unbelievably absurd situation, her thoughts were paralyzed.
Unexpectedly, a massive shadow covered her.
Tilting her head at the sudden darkness, she turned around, and there, in her line of sight, stood a beast resembling a giant bear when she looked up.
However, it was different from the bears she was familiar with.
Raising four arms and trampling the ground with two thick hind legs, the grotesque creature appeared to be openly hostile to the intruder who had suddenly appeared.
The white flash of environmental exploration she emitted— the white flash of environmental exploration disturbed his territory.
The ruler who had claimed this entire forest as his domain for a long time now showed his fangs and growled at the soft-seeming intruder.
"First discovery of a primeval organism, huh."
Nevertheless, even facing such a grotesque beast, Lala did not lose her calm expression.
Standing on the ground with a composed attitude, she did not even flinch.
Instead, she displayed a smile indicating genuine joy on her face.
"Rugaah!"
Seemingly irritated by her, the beast opened its mouth wide and roared.
With the roar came a blast that caused her hair to flutter.
The beast's scent, mixed with the smell of the earth, spread through the surrounding wind.
Even so, her ice-like expression did not waver.
Casually extending her right arm towards the bear, she opened her mouth.
"Spin Spear Shot."
A white light traversed her skin.
Condensed at the tip, it wrapped around the wind, twisted, whined, and turned into a long, slender spear that pierced the giant's body.
The fierce wind became a blade, cutting through the thick muscles.
Blood blocked by fur spurted out.
Amidst the beastly stench, an iron smell mingled.
"—Ga!?"
Confusion mixed with the red glow in its eyes.
Without him realizing it, his two legs lost strength.
Loosening its entire body, the giant slowly toppled over.
Lala, with a slight smile at the corner of her mouth, brushed away the blood that had splashed on her.
"Not very strong, huh? I'd still find those modified human punks more troublesome. Anyway, it seems the environmental load is within the adaptation range of the nanomachines. Let's take a little walk."
Making the judgment that staying in this place would be unproductive, she stepped out of the cryogenic sleep device.
After walking a little on the soil, Lala realized that she was barefoot.
Touching her cheek with her slender white fingers, she groaned for a moment.
"Hmm... Ah, let's use this."
Certainly, walking barefoot on a bloodstained ground seemed inappropriate, so she searched for something that could be used as shoes.
She found the remains of the cryogenic sleep device, a sad and terminated artifact, in front of her.
Lala grabbed the silver armor and activated the nanomachines.
The nanomachines within her body gained control of the dominion over the nanomachines inherent in the material of the cryogenic sleep device.
This special metal, infused with a certain amount of nanomachines, could change its shape freely according to her will.
"Well, which shoes should I go for?"
Accessing the database, she selected the model with the lowest difficulty of creation and gave the command.
A part of the device's armor peeled off, and in an instant, it transformed into metallic shoes.
"Alright! Looks good."
Tapping her toes lightly, Lala was pleased.
The remaining debris of the device, fashioned into a backpack-like form for easy carrying, she slung over her shoulders.
When the petite Lala carried the box, many times her size, on her back, it created an unusual silhouette.
Under normal circumstances, lifting such a weight would seem impossible, but the nanomachines supported her with their assistance.
"Oh, I should take this with me, too."
Lifting the neck of the fallen giant bear, she grabbed it and lightly lifted it.
With her small body, it was an unbelievably strong force.
If there were intelligent beings present here, witnessing this fantastical scene, they would doubt their eyes.
"Well, let's go!
Fortunately or unfortunately, no one in this place spoke up about her abnormal actions.
And so, without recognizing her abnormality, Lala, dragging the massive bear body behind her, walked deeper into the forest.
